Transportation Innovation Lab Launch Gatherings

For Immediate Release - Cape Breton: Transportation Innovation Lab Launch Gatherings

The Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) Transportation Innovation Lab (TIL) project was initiated in March 2018. The project is being implemented by Common Good Solutions, advised by a local advisory committee, and overseen by the Department of Community Services.

The TIL project will build on the significant work already undertaken in Cape Breton to identify transportation needs and potential areas of opportunity to meet these needs, particularly for individuals living in poverty. The project will draw on a wide array of partners and stakeholders who are working at the ground level on poverty reduction, transportation, and employment to identify opportunities for shared solutions.

While this project will consider the transportation needs of individuals holistically, its primary focus will be to connect under- and unemployed individuals in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) with employment opportunities across the Island by identifying potential transportation solutions. The project will engage three main stakeholder groups through the Lab process to: verify needs; generate, evaluate, and test potential solutions; and determine a path to implementation. These three stakeholder groups are:

  • under- and unemployed individuals living in the CBRM,
  • employers looking to fill labour shortages,
  • and community organizations and advocates working in these areas.

As a next step, we will be hosting Launch Gatherings to bring all three stakeholder groups together in four communities in the CBRM: Sydney, Glace Bay, New Waterford and Sydney Mines .

  • Sydney Mines Launch Gathering will take place at 6:00pm on April 30 at Community Cares Youth Outreach.

  • Glace Bay Launch Gathering will take place at 1:00pm on May 1 at St. Mary’s Hall.

  • Sydney Launch Gathering will take place at 6:00pm on May 1 at New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation.

  • New Waterford Launch Gathering will take place at 11am on May 2 at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

We would love to have you and / or other members of you organization join us!
